Guidelines for Authors of "Asian Disaster Trauma Research"
Asian Journal of Disaster and Trauma Studies
(October 20, 2025)

Established on October 12, 2020 Revised on October 20, 2025
1. The first author of a paper must be a member of this society. Co-authors and invited authors do not necessarily need to be members of this society.

2. Submitted papers must be unpublished. Papers that have already been published in other academic journals, commercial journals, university/research institute bulletins, or as books, or papers currently under submission to any of these, cannot be submitted to this journal.

3. Submitted papers will include original research papers, practical research papers, practical reports, reviews, short reports, survey reports, commentaries, and other papers deemed necessary by the editorial board.

4. Those wishing to submit an entry should send their original manuscript, prepared in accordance with the following regulations, and a draft for review with the author's name, affiliation, contact information, acknowledgments, etc., removed, via email to the editorial office address (2018asdt@gmail.com) as attachments (Windows PDF files only).

5. Manuscripts should be prepared by downloading the designated template from the society's website and following its format (margin width, font, font size, etc.). Figures and tables should be saved in the same file as the main text and submitted as a single file.

6. The first page of the main text must be entirely in English and include the title, list of authors, names of authors' affiliations, an English abstract (200-300 words), keywords that accurately describe the content of the text (no more than 5 words), and the name and contact information of the first author (principal author). The English text should be typed on A4 paper with double spacing. The English text should be proofread by a professional.

7. On page 2 of the main text, include the Japanese title, a list of authors, the authors' affiliations, a Japanese translation of the English abstract, and contact information.
8. As a general rule, the word count of the manuscript (excluding spaces) should be no more than 12,000 characters in Japanese (including figures, tables, and references), 8,000 words in English, and 8,000 characters in Chinese for original research papers. Practical research papers, practical reports, short reports, survey reports, reviews, and responses should be no more than 8,000 characters, and review articles should be no more than 16,000 characters.
9. The editorial committee may permit a slight exceedance of the prescribed page count if deemed necessary.
10. Original research papers and short reports should, in principle, be structured as follows: Problem, Methods, Results, Discussion, and References.
11. The official languages of the conference shall be Japanese, Chinese (simplified and traditional), and English, written horizontally, using modern kana orthography, commonly used kanji, and Arabic numerals. Commas (,) shall be used for punctuation marks, and periods (。) shall be used for punctuation marks.
12. English translations in the text are limited to proper nouns such as foreign names and place names, and technical terms. For technical terms, the original term is given in parentheses only on the first occurrence, followed by the translation or katakana representation.
13. Use only the bare minimum of figures and tables, limiting each to one per page on the final page, and arranging them sequentially at the end of the main text.
The size of figures and tables should be twice the size of the printed version. Any costs associated with such figures or tables will be borne by the author.
14. Figures should generally be clear and easy to understand, drawn in black on a white background. Figures should be numbered in the order they appear in the text, as in Fig. 1. Tables should be numbered as in Table 1. The insertion points of figures and tables should be clearly indicated in the text.
15. Figures and tables should have short titles and descriptions, but unless Japanese is deemed more appropriate, they should be in English. The title of the figure or table should not be included within the figure itself, but should be shown on a separate sheet before the figure or table.
16. Notes should, in principle, be placed as footnotes, and sequential numbers should be indicated in the upper right corner of the text. Footnotes regarding acknowledgments and grants such as scientific research grants should be placed in the title. If the affiliation changes between the time of submission and publication, the footnote should be placed in the name of the person(s). Footnotes to the title and names should not be included in the manuscript itself, but should be written in the designated area on the submission page.
17. The bibliography should be listed on a separate page after the main text. References should be listed alphabetically, and chronologically for works by the same author. When citing a reference within the text, list all authors for the first mention; for subsequent citations, list only the first author, and use "et al." or "et al." for all others (e.g., ○○○ et al., 2001; ○○○ et al., 2001).
18. The format for citing references should be as follows: for monographs, author(s), year of publication, title, and publisher; for journals, author(s), year of publication, title, journal name, volume number, and page numbers. Do not abbreviate the journal name, and list all authors' names even if there are multiple. The journal name, book title, and volume number should be italicized. If italics are not possible, use an underline. An example of citation is as follows:

Regarding the publication of preprints of submitted papers

Asian Society for Disaster and Trauma Studies, February 17, 2026

In recent years, it has become widely practiced internationally to publish research manuscripts as preprints before peer review is complete, as a means of rapidly disseminating research results to the world.
The Asian Society for Disaster Trauma Research's journal, "Asian Disaster Trauma Research," will also allow authors to make preprints of their submitted papers available at their request, with the aim of achieving both the rapid dissemination of research findings to society and the assurance of research ethics.

1. Declaration at the time of submission: If you wish to have your submitted manuscript published as a preprint, please clearly state this at the time of submission.
Please note that while preprints can serve as a means of demonstrating priority (originality) of research ideas, they are not formally published papers that have undergone peer review.

2. Anonymity of Peer Review: This journal generally employs an anonymous peer review system. However, if a preprint is made public, it may be possible for reviewers to identify the author. Please be aware of this before considering the publication of your preprint.

3. Regarding new publications and submissions to other journals while under review: Please refrain from submitting manuscripts to other journals or publishing them as preprints after submitting them to this society, while they are still under review.
We reserve the right to refuse to review or publish submissions if duplicate submissions or ethical publishing issues are found.

We kindly ask for your understanding and cooperation.
